shower tile floor

We had a contractor install shower tile floor. One tile on the floor is higher than the tile next to it. The contractor claims that it sticks up less than 1/8 of an inch higher than the tile next to it. (There are actually a few tiles that do this.) He says that the 1/8 inch is a standard of the ASHI. The shower does drain properly, but these pointy tiles are annoying. Does his 1/8 inch rule make sense?

Depends on the type of tile that you used. Obviously stone like tiles will have natural differences in height and shape. Manufactured porcelain tiles will all be nearly identical. So if there are a few that stick up, that's just poor workmanship. As far as the contractor quoting an "ASHI" standard... that's odd. ASHI is the American Society of Home Inspectors. Which is irrelevant to how he laid tiles. In my opinion it sounds like he's just trying to justify his mistake.
