Shower pan plumbing

I have an old shower I'm remodeling. It has a sloped concrete pan into a cast iron drain. It's in the basement so it's over concrete.

I want to tile the floor and walls, so I'm thinking of keeping the current pan, add a membrane, add another layer of sandy mortar.

I don't know what type of drain to use to go into the cast iron drain that will now be lower than the tiles and membrane.

Thanks in advance.

You should cut out the cast iron past the p trap and replace with pvc piping. Then you can do your shower pan the way you want.

I decided to break the previous pan and see what the drain looks like. It's a 4" cast iron pipe sticking up about 2 inches from the ground. I'm trying to avoid cutting into the concrete foundation. Is there any easy options?

That sounds very wrong---is there a P-trap under there? I;m guessing someone used an existing floor drain for the shower drain---

Short answer--no easy way----shower drains are typically 2 inch---and extend below the slab by a bit---

breaking out the old drain and P-trap is not advanced plumbing----we will walk you through it if you go that route---
