shower pan on concrete floor

I am building a basement shower on a concrete floor. I will put in first mortar base then liner then final concrete layer. Do I need mesh in either concrete layer?

No!

What type of floor drain are you using and is the floor already sloped to a drain?

I will use a proper 3 piece drain assembly. Floor is level, I was planning on sloping the first mortar base.

Heres a link to a great product to assist in making that shower pre-slope and final pan slope darn near perfect. I used this on my first shower pan done last year and couldn't have been more satisfied.

Do yourself a favor and use the Schluter Systems floor drain and KERDI Mat waterproofing system.

Only one cement slope is required (no pre-slope) and you don't have to fight the pan liner to fit it to the studs and curb.

You will need one KERDI Drain, one small roll of KERDI Mat, one Schluter Curb, one small roll of KERDI Band. The KERDI Drain is much simpler to use.

Best system to come along, ever.
