Shower pan

I am going to take out an exsiting fiberglas tub and shower kit, my plan is to istall just a shower. I do not like any shower kits, so I will just design my own with concrete and tile. My question is about the shower pan. Should I buy 1 premade or should I just form 1 myself ? is it worth the extra effort ?

Probably easier with the pre-formed kit, but also a lot more expensive than using a liner to make your own....

I've never installed a pre-fab pan, so I don't know if it is easier. I've priced them (Kohler) and I can tell you that if you can install the pan for less than $1000, the site-built pan is less expensive. Of course you have to tile it for less than a grand as well.

I spent quite a bit of time researching that very subject. I'm in the middle of a 2-story addition and I have two showers to put in.

Fiberglass....well...pretty obvious....ok if your doing a rental or on a tight budget...and don't want more than 10 years out of it...
Kerdi...contractors like it...quick...easy...reliable...but...expensive.
Hot mop....labor intensive....but when done right...very reliable...

I'm doing hot mop....

Basically, I can get a guy to come in and do a hot mop for about half the cost of doing Kerdi....
