shower fixture change

I'm re-doing a bath/shower combo. It currently has separate hot cold faucet handles. So when taking a shower, one has to add a little of this, a little of that, before finding a good temp.

How big of a task is it to change that to one handle that manages hot and cold (and all inbetween)...? DIY or serious plumbing job?

OK, I have better terminology now. I'm looking to go from a triple-control mechanism (one handle for hot, one handle for cold, one handle for shower/tub spout)

to a single-control fixture.

Is this a pretty big deal, or a DIY?

Whether its a DIY project or time to call in a professional is relative to how experienced you are with plumbing. You're going to need to get into the wall, cut out the existing valve, solder in a new single handle, pressure balanced valve, patch the hole, then install the trim. If you can solder in close quarters and have the proper tools its not too bad. If your experience with plumbing is slim to none....weeelll....thats another story.
