Shower faucet handles sometimes squeak a steam sound

Using tub shower, notice that while adjusting/turning the hot & cold water faucet handles, it sometimes produces a squeaking sound that sounds like an old steaming tea kettle pot. Have to adjust some more to get the sound to go away.

Is this normal (for old pipes) or an indication of potential problems?
