Shower drain question,
I am not sure about the drain plumbing on my new shower. The original contractor put the drain in the wrong location. In order to move the drain to the correct location the new contractor busted concrete and put another p-trap on the line and swivelled it into the correct location.

Is it ok to have 2 p-traps in a series?

The line is 2" and dumps directly into a 4" main line.

Code Violation
It is a code violation to double trap a fixture.

One of the traps needs to be removed

is it against code to not have a p-trap in your shower drain. i had a bath installed in basement with a sump pump . sometimes i have a smell. wonder if the contractor actually put in p-trap. one plumber says its not there. how do i tell.

All fixtures are required by code to have a trap, no trap means gases in your home.

Shine a flash light down the shower drain is you see water you have a trap, no water, chance there is no trap.

ron, so if there is water in the drain, i can assume there is a p-trap, right? I am about to have the shower tiled and don't want to have problems later and have to dig it up. I have heard that with a drain in the floor and a sump pump that you have to run water in it occasionally or it will smell a little . Is that right?

I had the bath put in a long time ago and just never had it finished out.

and sometimes I notice a smell if I dont run water in the drain.

Yes you can assume there is a trap there.

Yes you need to make sure water keeps the trap seal, add water once in awhile.
