Shower drain problem

Hello all,

I am having a problem with my shower drain piping over the last few months. I have a stall shower with the drain centered in the floor. Over the last few months I have noticed the white PVC drain pipe starting to extend up into my actual shower.

It is to the point where it's pushed the drain cover up and is a good 1/4 inch above the floor level. I'm tempted to just cut it down level again but wanted to see if anyone here would have any idea what may be going on.

The shower floor doesn't appear to be sagging and my house is built on a slab foundation. Would cutting the pipe be a viable option or should I go beyond that?

Post a picture of the drain and the type of connection -- some use glue--some a black rubber ring--some are leaded in----

Something bad is happening there---the pan is sinking or the pipe is rising----and the pipe is no longer secure in the drain---More info.please

yes we need a picture as mike said something is not right ...either shower stall is flexing or pipe is lifting ..no mater what you got a serious problem....will wait for pics....

Attached is a picture of my drain issue. I tried taking a hammer to it and drive the pipe down and it worked for a week then started to poke back up again. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

If yer on a slab and it's doing that, you got big problems methinks.




You COULD try cutting it and retightening the center nut to further compress the gasket.

I'm not sure what would cause this other than some kind of leak that's eroding the gravel around the pipe and allowing it to lift and/or float

I agree with Alan----You must tighten that drain in its new 'up' position---

If you can get a seal---cut the pipe stub off---If that fails---it will be time to remove the pan--re-do the drain and reset the pan----Nothing to loose by trying to get that to seal--
