shower drain problem

here's the problem. we took the old shower which was a fiberglass shower. when we pulled it out, the drain ripped out also, just the top portion. now when i look at the drain, it is flush with the existing presloped floor. just the top portion of the pipe is torn. its pvc. my question is if the pipe that i have already is still good and water still runs out with no leaks at all would it be alright to put another pvc pipe down the drain and make a good seal and then install a new shower drain then slope it for tile?
