Shower Drain Leak

Hi all -

I discovered yesterday that I had a water leak in my closet, and this morning traced it to a shower drain in an adjacent room.

I took the strainer off, and after cleaning the biggest, most disgusting hair ball I've seen in my life :-), see this:

There appears to be a gap between the brass (?) drain and the drain pipe. Is there something missing there? Moreover, drain doesn't appear removable, or does it?

Any suggestions on how to repair this?

Thanks!

Shower Drain Leak

Hopefully it's not slab on grade. Is this shower upstairs, downstairs, main floor? Do you have a crawl space? Are you able to access the drain from under the shower? That's what you'll need to do.
