Shower drain

Hi, in my shower water leaves well, but when I opened strainer I see water in the pipe about two inches below the shower floor, but when I run water it doesn't accumulate , leaves ok. Is it normal to always have water in the pipe? I checked it only because after I am on trip, shower not used for a week, some stale water smell, probably because of water always in the pipe. I tried drano or pump, no change. Thanks

Shower drain

The water that sits in the shower drain is there for a reason. It sits inside what is known as a P trap and maintains a water seal so that the sewer gases from your drainage system do not travel into your house.

Perfectly normal and infinitely preferable.
