i have replaced the diverter twice, still leaks, can i replace the main line running to the shower, or cut out that section and replace with flex tubing. when i turn the diverter knob a lot of water still runs out the faucet

shower diverter

I assume this is a 3 handle faucet with center handle being the diverter?? You say you replaced it, what did you replace?? It works just like the other two valves, with a hard rubber washer, and brass seat. If you replace the valvestem or washer, the problem could be a bad seat, usually replacable(if you can get it out, need seat wrench).
