Shower base mortar mix with acrylic fortifier

I'm about to put the layer of mud down before the liner. I'm going to use metal lath and tar paper. I found that home depot sells the 60 lb bags of sand mix so I got two of them. I also got a bottle of acrylic fortifier. Do people swear by the fortifier? Will it help the areas that get thin? Also, in all the videos on youtube, etc they say latex fortifier.. Is this different? Do I need it to actually bond to anything or just not crack?

Also, for a 64" by 32" shower, is 1 60# bag enough or will I need two for the pre liner layer?
