should I install water pressure regulator...

My pressure at utility sink, in the basement is just under 85psi. If I need a regulator can I install it on vertical pipe above water meter, or should I install it on a horizontal pipe? Are the regulators compression or sweat on?

Thanks in advance for any sugestions.

If the pressure is 85 at the utility sink then I would think the whole house is at 85 psi

I would install a regulator to reduce the pressure

It does not matter if it is verticle or horz just install it where the water service enters the house.

as stated before you can install in right after the water meter in the house and it can be vertical or horizontal. they will have female threads on them so you will need to sweat on male adaptors assuming you have copper piping.
