Shark-bite connector problem

I have a 3/8" - 1/2" Shark-bite connector and I need to remove the white
plastic insert in the connector before I insert my 3/8" copper pipe. Does anyone know how to remove the plastic insert without damaging the connector?
Thanks

The instructions for removing the insert are on the package. You should only have to push down on the beige plastic ring and work the insert out by tilting it side to side.

The same instructions are on the SharkBite website and can be downloaded last time I checked.
