My guess would be...

Trap is too deep and nothing can flush out of it, so all the crap just settles in the trap.

Run a snake down the vent on the roof to see if anything built a house in it lol

You know, one thing I noticed is the water in the trap has a film on top of it - I assumed that was normal but since the trap is pretty deep, I wonder if that could be the cause.

You gotta think a shower doesnt have the force of downflow like a tub or toilet, so its just slowly coming out the other side of the trap. I'd bet its nasty in there.

On second look, the trap exit is normal its just the down tube is long which would help the cause not hurt it.
Im going back to blocked vent!

Just out of curiosity, how many vent tubes exit the roof and what size are they...and how many bathrooms do you have in the house?

Two vent tubes - unsure of size but one looks larger than the other. Three full baths. But keep in mind that this problem only came about after the plumber moved the drain, so the overall setup of the house shouldn't be an issue.

Do small animals have access to your roof? I would snake the vents to make sure.

Poor some bleach and see if that improves the smell.

Not sure if it means anything, but it looks like the trap is made up using elbows instead of a pre-made trap. This may be why the trap is set so deep.

sorry to hear of your problem with the shower.....all good advice..I can tell you not a very good job....could have used premade trap it would have fit...I believe the trap seal is being pulled allowing sewer gas to enter the house...most likely cause venting... ben
