sewer main line repar

Hello,

I wonder if any of you can advise.
Our sewers are backing into the house. The plumber did his thing with the snake and found some roots. However, he claims there is too much dirt and sand and suspects broken pipe?! He wants to charge $1250 to dig up the front yard for repair.
The line is 3' deep.
Does this sound like a reasonable diagnostic?
Does this sound like a reasonable price?

Any help is, of course, greatly appreciated.

Thanks much.

cheers,
Babar

Sounds to me that the tree also needs to go as its roots will keep looking for a water source. locating and digging is probaly 1100. of the estimate and the balance is to repair the waste pipe. If $ is the issue ask if you dig can he fix however it is a labor intensive for diy
