sewer gas in bathroom sink

My sink was stopped up pretty bad so I pulled the trap and ran a snake down it. Cleared right up. But now when I run the faucet, I get a horrible sewer smell for about a minute or so after running the water. There is no smell until I turn the water on so the trap must be working. Any ideas on this one?

If it is a bathroom sink I might run bleach thru the overflow first before I would jump to the conclusion that you might of put a hole in your drain line.

I'm confused because you said you get a sewer smell for a minute or so AFTER running the water, then you say that you don't get the smell until the water is turned on.

I would try this :

Disconnect the p-trap, stuff a rag in the open drain.

Put the largest bucket possible under the sink, run water into the bucket. See if you still get the smell.

Can you post a picture of what the drain under the sink looks like?

Do you get smell with cold or hot water running?

Sometimes worn out anode in hot water tank can cause bad odors.

Are you on municipal water or well water. If well water, then could have sulphur in water.

As stated check/clean out overflow and drain some more could be residuals from clearing drain just wafting back until water flow dissipates them.

Let us know how you make out. uhhh....may have phrased that wrong.
I don't want to know how you Make Out....just how the situation works out.

Do you have an AAV (air admittance valve) on the drain line as opposed to a individual vent line?

If so you may have an issue with the AAV valve not working correctly.

To clarify, I get the smell for a couple of minutes when first turning on hot/cold. After that no smell. I'm not at home right now but we do have an AAV in the addition upstairs (bathroom) but not sure if it's connected to the downstairs...I'll investigate when I get home. I'm on city water. I don't get the smell at any other places in the house though. Thanks for all the suggestions.
