Securely join ABS or PVC pipe to fittings?

Hey all!

thanks for clickin' here's my question...

I got some 3" ABS pipe here and some want to join it with some fittings using a standard pipe in hub connection. I want to test it first before I weld it with the ABS cement but I can only get the pipe about half way into the hub! I'm turning and squimin' trying to get it on but now I feel like a total wimp and have to beg for help.

I tried tapping a hammer on it and lubing up the connecting surfaces with soapy water but still nothing.

Will someone help me? Thank you!

Try sanding down the pipe to a rounded slightly smaller diameter.
