Screw size for bathtub drain

Hi;
I need to buy a new brass screw for the bathtub (don't know what brand, but it's in the USA, and is probably 50 years old) drain. This is the long screw that holds the drain screen in place.
I have been using whatever I have around, but the screws keep corroding on me, so I want to get a brass one, as I believe the drain itself is brass.
I tried to thread a 10-32 nut onto the screw but it did not go, so I figure it's 10-24.
Can anyone confirm this for me?

Thanks

FW

Can you post a pic of the drain screen. Thanks.

Is it something like this?

Stay tuned, I can't confirm the size of the screw, but I'm sure someone here can. I would get a couple different sizes from the hardware store and do a little trial and error. Just a thought.

Yes, that looks a lot like it, although my strainer is aftermarket, and really cheap. I have to replace it about once a year.
