Sanitary Y Tee Question

Hello All,

I believe using a sanitary tee on the horizontal is against the ontario building code. Does anyone have any experience with this and how I might change it in compliance with code? or at least comment if they believe I might have future problems with this? Maybe leave it?

The farthest is a laundry box and the horizontal sanitary tee is for a laundry tub of which I will add a 45 to come straight out of the wall.

I'm confused-
I see a wye on its side. Is that for the sink?
If you were plumbing off the UPC, You could not horizontal wet vent the sink the way you have. But I have no idea how your code reads.
I also see a san t on its back directly downstream from the washer box. That should be a combination wye/45.

I don't know exactly why, but having a sanitary tee on its back is a code violation. But there was one installed that way in a house I used to own. It had been that way for more than 50 years, apparently without issue. Can one of the pros here please explain why it's a code violation??

A Wye and an 1/8 bend, or a long sweep Wye gets the waste water going in the right direction. Those Tees are OK for vents, Not too good for waste.
I dont know when the change came about, but its a good one. I have opened up a lot of clogged up Galvanized Tee's over the years. Water running into the back of those just makes all kind of turbulence, and debris settles to the bottom, I guess. That cleanout should be turned up to a 45 degree angle too, IMO.

Sorry for the confusion. The Wye tee on its side is for the laundry tub, not a cleanout. It will have a 45 attached to it so that it comes straight out of the drywall.

Does anyone have any suggestions to make this proper? or do you think I will have any problems with it.

Is there a problem with the sanitary tee vent too?

I am starting a laundry room remodel in the basement and have done some reading on the subject - at least to me looks like your venting take off is too low - it needs to be 6" above the highest rim ( or 42" from the floor whichever is larger ) - in this case the top of the stand pipe for the washing machine.

It is hard to see in the picture, but when drilling holes, the max they can be is 60% of the width ( for non-load walls, 40% for load walls ) with a min 5/8 to the edge - check it out and possibly reinforce a bit if below 5/8 if you plan to hang heavy cabinets on the wall.

I looked at the image once more- I see at least 5 code violations. Some minor- some major
clothes washer requires 2" drain- some areas-3"
sink requires 2" drain and needs a vent
Santee on its back in a drain line
ptrap w/cleanout cannot be concealed
Venting must rise to 6" above the flood rim as previously stated

I forgot to comment on the drain - you would be able to stack vent both drains since you are within the 8' for the 2" and 5' for the 11/2" ( ie no need for the venting pipes). The problem is that the rough-in for the laundry sink is 13" FF - the p-trap for the washing machine needs to be 6 to 18" above the floor - in both cases when connecting to the stack for stack venting a san. t has to be used and only one item per branch.

The setup you have right now is a common vent with the 2" being partly a wet vent for the sink - the sizes are fine and meet the FU requirements, but I hope someone does comment if this is allowed for a washing machine drain in Ontario.

P.S. I took another look at the image and can't tell if that is a 2" pipe - if not my comments don't apply.

This just goes to show the differences between codes. Most of what you said will not pass UPC- no idea of OP's AHJ
Also, look at the washer box- appears to have a 2x1.5 bushing
