Sand in basement pump- well room

How did sand get in the basement pump-well room? Is something wrong with the pump or the well? We have noticed the pump is running but we have not used the water and nothing is running in the house.

Sand in basement pump- well room

Are you talking about a sump pump or a well pump?

Edit- Its not unusual to have sand or silt in a sump well, it is carried in with the water.

Sand on the other hand from a well is a good indication that the well is running dry.

When its all said and done there is usually more said than done
