Is it safe to use WD40 or penetrating oil when trying to take apart faucet handle?

The retaining nut is stuck, preventing me from removing the cartridge.

Is it safe to use a penetrating oil in there or will that come into contact with the water I will eventually be drinking?

Penetrating oil, on a faucet R&R, post some pic's of the faucet you are trying to take apart.

As for the WD40, it water saluable, so let the tap run it will be gone in minutes.
