Rusted toilet flange
I'm in the process of re-tiling our second bathroom. We pulled the toilet and found the flange rusted to the point one of the bolts won't hold.

I picked up a stainless steel repair ring, and since it looked a little low I also picked up a PVC extender.

If I use the repair ring it will end up right at or just below the tile. Would it be better to use it and maybe an extra wax ring or can I use the extension as a repair ring since it will bring it to a level just above the tile?

Or is there another solution without tearing up the pipe?

We are on a slab foundation and installing ceramic tile.

I'm heading off to work now, but I will check back later and can add a pic then if I need to.

I'd use the extension to bring it to the correct elevation. I hate hate hate hate hate hate....did I mention I dont like.....using more than one wax ring. I've seen one strand of wax cause a toilet to backup, overflow, flood the bathroom, leak into the ceiling below....needless to say it was a mess. Oh again....did I mention this was done at my house when I was a 2nd year apprentice? lol broke me of more than one wax ring.

There are extra thick wax rings that exist and recommended to use when rasing the floor height. Lowes carries the extra thick rings.

JDC is better at this then me, just my two cents, I don't care for the two rings but have done it before, sometimes you just gotto, anyway, last job I was at, commercial building, original install put the flange a tad too low in a slab, plumber came in and used the pvc extender, he said he doesn't care for them because it downsizes the inside diameter of the drain pipe, could lead to clogging. I guess I'd go with the extender, at least you take the guess work out of trying to put two rings down.
