rust in well water


hey folks. i have just recently purchased a home in the country. I have a fairly new water heater and softener. my water coming out of the faucets is rather rusty. any suggestions?

Old steel plumbing? If so it always will be rusty water unless you replace it with something like Pex.
Old steel pipes rust out from the inside out. At some point it's going to leak and close up on the inside reducing the flow.

ok. im in southern ohio. house built in 79. are you saying pipes from well pump to softener or pipes inside home?

All of it, any steel pipes or fittings need to go.

ill look into that. should i be checking softener or water heater also

Agree with Joe, would check and see what kind of plumbing you have first. Some pictures would help.

How old are the hwh and softener? You stated they're fairly new.
