running black gas pipe
I have a few questions about joining pipe - and running pipe thru studs. I've read that you should join black pipe using BOTH tape and paste. I've run about twenty feet using only paste and am wondering if i've made a mistake? Secondly, I'm running about twenty five feet of pipe from one end of a room to the other. The room is framed with 2x6 studs on 16 inch ctrs. How far into the stud should I cut in order to run it? Since the wall is load bearing, I imagine I can cut too far in and weaken the wall. The pipe is 3/4" and i'd like to cut only far enough into the studs to cover with a plate and be done with it. Is this standard procedure? Plates are cheap and as long as I can get the shtrock on the wall (pipe back in the stud far enough back not to get in the way), it seems logical.
Lastly, I suppose I could simply run my pipe up thru my top plates, and thru my scissor trusses and back down, but i'd have to cut my 72" pipe (purchased at a local Lowes) into pieces with couplings to get them to fit into the roof trusses (trusses are on 24" ctrs). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
