Rough In Valve - How not to Save $5
I retrospect, my attempt to save $5 was a big fail.
I'm putting in 2 new showers....so, following the advice from you guys, I bought the Delta rough in valve.
I had two basic choices....one with the tub outlet and one for shower only. Shower only was about $5 more. So, I figure....just cap the tube outlet.
Asked the question here...best way to cap....options, bass cap or sweat a plug.
Well....that brass cap at HD cost of $5....they had a nice little male plug....$4.61.
1/2" cap, $0.61? Not sure how a copper plug can be $4 more than the cap......
I had plenty of short pieces of 1/2" copper....
But, by the time your roll in the cost of parts, MAP gas, solder, and my time....not to mention how it looks.....
I retrospect, I would have been better off with the shower only valve.
(I'll be really pissed if the capped port leaks)
It seems most shops I've worked with only order the tub valve. But then it's just one valve to stock in the shop and less chance of grabbing the wrong one.
Once at the jobsite, one person would prefab the valves, house bibs, washer box, ice maker, etc. So sweating a cap was just part of the process.
Don't lose sleep over it.
He, he, just thought of something. Dont put the valve in upside down:laughing:
