Just installed a new Rheem powervent water heater (40 gallon) and my wife smelled gas in the basement a week later. I checked the gas lines with soap and water and didn't find any leaks, but I put my nose by the gas valve on the water heater itself and I can smell gas. The gas company verified that there's a ".03" leak there. They didn't red flag it.
I then called Rheem and the technical support person said that a gas "leak" there is normal. Is that correct? He said that without a small vent (which is where the leak comes from) there would be vaporlock. I'd like to get your advice. Thanks!
