My toliet starting leaking, so i took the toliet off and notice the wax ring was hardly smashed at all. The flange is not even will the tile flooring in the bathroom. I went out and bought an extra think flange and tried putting that on. When i place the toliet back on the extra think wax ring showed more displacement but not enough that i feel it will be a tight fit. What can i do to in sure a tight seal. I have heard you could use 2 wax rings will this work, or do i need to try something else?
I've had success using two. I like to get one regular wax ring and one wax ring with "horn" (kind of a plastic funnel). I place the regular wax ring on the floor flange first, then the ring w/horn on top of that. then carefully set the toilet down on that. Gently twist the toilet to seat it on the floor - don't rock.
A few months back one of the contibutors here on the DIY chatroom showed us the very best method for installing wax rings including pictures. I thought it was so great I included it on my blog site and have republished it several times making ssure to give him the credit for it. Here is a link to my blog and further info on the process and the pics: http://nationalbuildersupply.blogspot.com/2009/10/new-idea-for-replacing-wax-ring.html
I hope this helps.
