Question

Replacing toilet flange

The flange under my toilet is partially rusted away and I want to replace it. The flange is metal and I have cast iron drain pipes. How is the flange attached to the pipe and how do I change it?

Replacing toilet flange

The flange is cast iron and fits over the drain pipe. It is the packed with oakum and lead is poured into the joint. To get it off, you need to dig out the lead, or crack the flange fitting(JUST the flange, not the pipe) then pry it off.

Replacing toilet flange

If the existing flanges isn't too badly rusted away, you can use a repair flange. Lots less work and money.
