replacing shut off valve
I am ready to replace the kitchen faucet shut off valves. 1/2" copper and replacing compression with compression.

I have bought the ferrite / compression sleeve puller.

I just want to know do I have to shut the valve at the water heater so the hot water would stop dribbling?

And should I use sand paper or something to clean the pipe, remove oxidation and nicks and scratches, before new compression nut goes on? What grit of sand paper would you recommend?

Shut it off there and turn on taps below your work area to drain residual water from above. Fine sand paper, wed dry holds up or emery cloth with a gentle touch.
