replacing moen 1222 with a broken stem

I've read about using pullers, easy outs, taps and most don't seem applicable to the 1222 cartridge. My stem is broken, the h/c tab is broken and the little white "wrench" moen supplies does not move it. Do I just need to use a drill bit and try to drill out most of it or what????

Calcium and deposits can really lock those things in. use W D 40 and rotate the complete cartridge with the puller it should lock on to the front of the cartridge spin it inside the valve until it spins freely then pull it may take a couple of tries, make sure you removed the retainer that hold that cartridge in place.

The puller looks good. The valve had a tab at the top (h/c) and a tab at the bottom. The tab at the top broke off. But the tabs only allow a little movement. If this puller grabs the cartridge should I break bottom tab to be able to fully turn cartridge? Once turned, if the puller grabs cartridge it should come out, right?

yes, I removed the pin. I'll have to buy a puller because that lilltle white Moen plastic piece will not turn it. I just wanted to make sure before I buy the puller that it grabs the cartridge. None of the videos showed this type of valve (1222)
