Replacing Metal Ring Around Garbage Disposal in Sink
I have an almond colored metal sink ring that is chipping away pieces of paint for some reason. They guys at Lowe's say it is a piece of cake to replace but it doesn't screw out or pop out...suggestions????

Well some cakes are easier to make than others so the guy at Lowes might be right in some ways but wrong in others depending on how hard it is to get the drain loose. The drain ring is not only screwed down but is sealed in with a bead of plumbers putty or some other sealer. If it werent it wouldnt hold water well and would leak under your sink. This means you will have to exert enough force on unscrewing the drain to break this seal, or if it is in 2 pieces, unscrew the rung under the sink to free up the drain and carefully pry it up from the sink. Remember when you go to replace it with the new ring you will have to remove all of the old putty and reseal it with some new then tighten it down from under the sink until the putty seeps out above. Then clean the residue off.
