Replacing a lead to iron waste elbow?

Need to replace the lead bend.
Do I cut the cast iron past the flare/bell and just rubber couple new pvc to it?

Or should I keep the iron flare, break off the lead, and then connect the pvc a Fernco donut?

From what I read its very difficult to get the donut inserted. I dont have a whole lot of hammer swinging room as its underground.

Is the quick cut & couple way acceptable to do or should it go the donut route regardless?

Replacing a lead to iron waste elbow?

either is fine
i have found that most of the time when someone says they are having a hard time getting donut in or band it is due to them using the wrong donut size since there are to weights of cast "thickness"

just be careful not to break next leaded joint
