Replacing bath tub faucet handles

I am remodeling my bathroom and I have a one handle bath tub faucet and I would like a new handle and new spout. Will the existing faucet valve behind the wall work with any new handle or do I need to replace the valve as well?

Thanks.

The cover plate says Moen. The valve has nothing on it that I can tell. Here is a photo.

you have plenty of info if you have cover plate. you can go to most home centers or plumbing suppliers and get the moen trim kit of your choice. they are fairly simple to install. pay close attention to the scald guard adjustment..make sure you specify whether it is a shower only or tub shower. i have had people get thier own stuff and are disapointed when they find out they got the wrong kit

the valve you showed has a hot and a cold shut off. before you put trim kit on make sure they are both open.use flat head screwdriver.
