replace toilet fill valve

I replaced the fill valve in my toilet. When I flush and the water begins to fill the tank through the valve a loud knocking sound occurs which appears to be stemming from the water source piping leading to the toilet. Do you know what this can be?

No it does appear that I can eliminate the banging sound and vibration by opening the valve more but then it is noisy while filling up and fills quickly as well. Should these water be opened to the full position?

you might have to deal with the noise. the banging is probably the water getting choked inside the valve. it's just a 1/4-turn right? let 'er rip.

I just want to confirm when we are talking about the valve being in the full open position I am talking about the water source. SO I opened the water source to the full position. The banging does not occur but the filling of the tank is a little loud but fills quickly.

Yes on the wall. The same valve I used to turn off the water when I replaced the fill valve. Thanks for your input.

If it is coming from the water line before the valve it sounds like water hammer. you can purchase a water hammer valve that is easily installed. Or a copper line is loose and hitting something under the house or if its on a second floor under the floor
