I saw one of the garden hose was leaking where it attaches to the hose bibb. It has an adapter that attaches to the hose bibb.
The leaking was from those tiny holes in the adapter. The rubber washer (?) that sat against those holes were all cracked.
So, I thought I just buy a new hose and try to connect to the hose bibb. The male end of the hose bibb (the diameter is something like 1 and 1/8 or 1 and 3/16) is too wide for the standard hose that I bought at Home Depot.
I went back to the HD with the old hose and asked for the same adapter and they do not have such thing. I also just tried one of the larger plumbing supply store in LA, they do not have.
Could you provide some ideas how I can solve this?
Do I need something drastic like sawing off the pipe to remove the hose bibb and start all over with a new hose bibb.
The end was actually an attachment to the hose bibb (I always thought it was part of the hose bibb. So I removed it and now I am able to attach the standard hose I got from HD, but see leaks where it is threaded onto the hose bibb and also through the space between black plastic part and the metal-end. Is this just solvable with teflon tape? Or something else? Thank you.

it's possible that it is the washer, but it's also possible that the problem is a cracked fitting on your hose. cheap hoses use cheap, thin brass fittings that will crack over time, especially with overtightening. the typical symptom is water squirting out at the seam of the fitting (where it turns).
Drill the set screw out and take the backflow unit off your spout and toss it in the trash. Now connect your hose with a new washer and call it a day.
