Question

repair Mueller 3/4 inch Brass Stop and Waste Valve

I have a Mueller 3/4 inch brass stop and waste valve that feeds a fountain. The valve has begun to spray water from the top when I fill the fountain and I have to tap on the top of the valve with the tbar to stop it from leaking when I shut the valve off. I can't see the bottom of the valve without digging it up and removing the valve. Is the valve repairable and is it possible to repair the valve in place?

Some of the old valves had a nut on the bottom that you could tighten and if you're able to tap on the top to stop the leak, that's likely what you have.

Any advice on the size of the nut (not the one posting the question, the one on the bottom that I can't see)?

I'm afraid I don't know. Shouldn't take too much torque though... if you can reach in with a crescent wrench, that should do it.
