Removing Delta Roman Tub Spout

I have a 24 year old Delta roman tub faucet assembly. No problem removing the faucets and faucet trim, but I cannot remove the 11" long SPOUT. It does NOT have a set screw in the back. Appears to be older than the Model 2710. I have disassembled the spout and it has a bracket inside that appears to be fastened from underneath to the tub deck at the rear of the spout. I now fear I will need to tear the entire tub surround apart to get underneath the tub deck to remove this obsolete spout. Any ideas out there?

Without knowing exactly what you have I can only go by Deltas' home site and they are mostly fastened from the bottom, sorry.
