removing cast iron wye joint

I have a major blockage in my old cast iron drain pipe...I`m looking to cut out the wye joint along with the vent cross section, the cast iron measures 2-1/2 inch`s.... I was wondering if I can reduce it down to 1-1/2 PVC...

A picture is needed-----If it is cast iron, not threaded steel, you can rent a chain breaker at any rental store--that will pop the pipe quickly.

Use rubber Fernco type fittings to add your new pvc pipe.

Pictures if you can--Mike--

My question was is the reduction in size ok?

Without knowing what it's connected to the answer is NO.

Same answer---a restriction in a drain should be avoided.
