REMOVE worn out STEM TYPE shower faucet...

Hello, I am getting closer to removing the worn out old stem from my shower faucet.
I am ready to turn off the water and take a wrench to that exposed nut (i guess turning counterclockwise to release). I am wondering if there is another nut hidden deep in the wall back there that needs to be reached too?

Here are photos:

Any advice greatly appreciated!
Thank you...

what are you doing here?

are you replacing the works or just the stem? if the stem. the first nut is a packing nut. the second will remove the stem. sometimes the packing nut will remove the stem. there are special wenches to remove stem, they are cheap, go buy one.....................do you know where to find parts? supply houses will be your friends here................. counter clockwise. have fun. breid
