Remove / repair shower cartridge

The plastic limiter on my shower cartridge broke and it's hard to regulate the on/off and temperature (and dangerous for my small child).

Picture attached and could use some help with several things.
1. This is as far as I have made it. What's the next step to get the cartridge out?
2. Does the cartridge need to come out or can I just replace the green plastic part that broke (if it will come out separate from the rest of the cartridge)?
3. Not sure what kind of cartridge I have, but assume I can figure it out once it's removed.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Not sure of the brand. No indication on the knob or faceplate.

That mixer valve has its own shut off stops---so you could shut off the water using the stops---I seldom do that ,however, as I have had them break---your call--

To remove the cartridge---grip the chrome collar and unscrew it---the cartridge can be wiggled out after that---take the old cartridge to the plumbing supply house and see if they stock one like it---the new cartridge should have the plastic stop rings--

If that is a Delta-(looks rather like one) you could get free parts from the manufacturer---however--without knowing the maker---you are best to just buy a replacement after the plumbing supply identifies it.

One of our plumbers might recognize what you have---so check back later---Mike---
