Question

Relocating a sump pump!?!?

Hey I'm new here and I hope you guys can help me with my problem. I am about to finish my basemen but I have one problem that's in my way. I have a perfect room I could use as a bedroom but there is a sump pump under the window I would like to get rid of. My plan is to relocate it about 10 feet to the left into my furnace room. My question is if its possible to do? I would gladly appreciate any ideas that could make it easier.
Here are some pictures.

Relocating a sump pump!?!?

It all depends on the configuration of your foundation drainage system.
See, the sump pump is usually installed in the lowest corner of the basement. The drain tile, or french drain must have the right pitch so that it can collect the water and divert it to the pump through gravity.

Moving the sump pump to another corner, might cause future basement leaks because the pipes are originally pitching the water to the current pit. You will probably need to make changes to your drainage or install a new drainage system to work with the new sump pump pit.

That might not be such a problem because nowadays you can install new drainage from the inside of the basement, without having to dig out the foundations and for a fraction of the cost.

Your best bet is to call a few waterproofing companies and weight your options before you risk a basement leak and a flood that will ruin your newly finished basement and everything in it.
