Rapid Water Pressure cycling
My water system consists of a submerged pump piping water through a pressure control vale and into a large pressure tank then into distribution lines. When I use water the pump kicks on and off about every 8 to 10 seconds. This has only been occuring for the past couple of weeks. I added air to the tank but it made no difference. The pressure switch (Square D) appears to have two adjusting nuts (springs behind them) but I do not know how to make adjustments or know what the pressure is if I change the settings.
Any recommendations?

The pressure tank has a bladder in it. The bladder may have a tear in it and is not holding. The tank may have to be changed.

Check the air bladder pressure in the pressure tank with a tire gauge by turning the pump off and draining the water pressure off, and then checking the pressure with the tire gauge at the air valve on the tank.
It should read 2 psi below your pump cut-on pressure (i.e. cut-on/cut-off psi at 30/50, the tank pressure should be 28 psi).
If the pressure is too low, air the tank up to the proper pressure with a bicycle pump or portable air tank or compressor. If that pressure won't hold, you need a new pressure tank.
Your two cut-on/cut-off adjustment nuts on your pressure switch should be O.K., but those can be adjusted later if necessary. The taller one is for the cut-on and the shorter one is for the cut-off, and you just have to experiment with them when adjusting them.
Good Luck!
