Is this quote a tad expenive?

The pressure tank on my well pump has a bad bladder. Got a quote to replace the tank along with some of the older parts. Here is the quote:

Material and labor to remove well pump pressure tank and install Well-x-trol 202 pump tank with new 100# gauge, pressure switch, boiler drain, and shut off valve. $992.

I priced the parts--about $300-$400 for everything. Is $600 a lot for labor, or is this that dificult of a job? I am not very handy, but is this something I can swap out on my own?

That could easily turn into a half day job. I don't think 600 for labor is terribly bad at all.

Seems a tad high for labor but, depends on your area and the prevailing wage rates. You are paying for what they "know how" to do, not what they "actually" do.

The point that you as home owners need to realize is that the plumber is not pocketing what you assume he is. whatever he makes as his actual pay , after all his overhead costs, is no where near what you think he would pocket. there is liability insurance, paying 1 to 2 people on the job, workman's comp, truck/van insurance, taxes, book keeping, cell phones, GAS, tool-upkeep, uniforms, continuing education, etc, etc, etc....he'll be lucky If he even pockets $300 for that job. regardless if it takes a half day, it's still a day that he's scheduled off to be working somewhere....

What he said. Running a legitimate plumbing company is not cheap.

It is something you could do yourself but only if you have some basic electrical and plumbing experience and are willing to devote the time and effort into learning what you will need to do BEFORE you start.

the part of that job that got me was the pressure switch, all those new parts and couldn't go anywhere without that pressure switch set properly. I love to do my own fixing's but it was the plumber who got water to flow from the well for me.

Yeah, it is not always easy either and it can be a very dirty and labor intensive work.
