question about toilet drain flange - enough play for tiles?
I want to tile my brother's bathroom floor, which sits on a concrete slab and covered by linoleum.
I'll be taking up the toilet and vanity tomorrow for a closer look, but I'm a bit concerned about raising the floor heigh by roughly 1/2" and having the toilet not sit back down on the flange. apparently there is no plumbing access underneath this slab. Is there some way around this? An adapter or something? Or, is there enough play in the toilet "nipple" that it can still seat properly on a wax ring?

There are adapters for slightly raing the flange height, and 1/2" should not be out of reach. They also make extra thick wax seals. Check home and plumbing supply stores.

just bill is correct. they do have a spacer ring kit for this complete with longer flange bolts. just make sure you clean the old flange before you silicone the spacer ring down, not that it will mater much on a concrete slab. I have used them on second floor Reno's with no problems. BOB.

You can find Flange Extenders at many Home Centers and hardwares. Besides silicone between the original and extender flange, they are meant to be connected to the floor using the provided holes. Two ways of looking at this. On a concrete floor, it is not likely the piping under the toilet is capable of moving, so securing may not be necessary, IF you use the longer bolts and secure the toilet to the original flange. I have installed extenders and used the slots in it (instead of the original flange) to secure the toilet and did use Tapcons into the concrete. I always secure the extender to the floor on wood floors.
