Question about sump pumps and check valves
I am installing a sump pump where there was no sump pump before. I am wondering if I can tie in the output into my output line for the water softener?
First of all the sump pump output is 1 1/4'' and the softener output line is 1/2, is this going to overload that line if I reduce it from 1.25 to .5''? Secondly, Im assuming ill need a check valve for the water softener sicne I wont want the sump pushing water back into the softener, but my sump pump check valve needs a hole below the check valve in the pipe, which means a little water will leak back into the sump, no big deal. BUT do I need to do this for the check valve on the softener line? Because this would leak back into my basement. thanks Nick |

You don't want to reduce the flow that much. During a big rain storm you will be sorry.

Question about sump pumps and check valves
Keep the lines separate. Don't cut corners on this.
Also, many installers don't drill a hole at the bottom near the pump. They'd rather keep the water in the pipe rather than relieve it back into the pit. |

Question about sump pumps and check valves
Do not tie the two lines together. Your sump pump will not work properly. Run the pump discharge line full size out of the house. I have never put a hole in the discharge line either.
