question about fire sprinker alarm system

i have a question about this sprinkler alarm system.

Here is a pic of what i have:

I am trying to tap into this water line for my RO/DI unit in the garage (for my fish tanks). I just want to make sure its ok to do so.

So the red box senses water flow (certain rates/time) and sets off the fire alarm. I'm guess it only senses water flow that goes past the red box. The "T" that splits off before the red box goes to a pressure gauge and then down to the lever (closed) which allows to let water out thru the wall out to the yard to flush water. I'm guessing the thing to the right of the pressure gauge is some sort of safety valve that opens once it hits a certain pressure.

There is a valve down below the main thick pipe. is it ok to turn that off and drain the sprinkler system so i can work on adding another valve for my RO/DI?

You probably don't want to tap into that system. That is black iron pipe and full rust, cutting oil, etc. It is not potable. Someplace near there should be a double check assembly or other approved backflow device. You need your connection on the potable side of that assembly.

cool, thanks for the info!!!! my poor RO/DI unit would had a heart attack.

What about tapping into the cold water line into the water heater? I'm thinking it would be safe to add a T to the cold water supply line to the water heater. From the T, i was going to put in a pressure regulator for drip irrigation systems so I can keep a max pressure of about 40psi then PVC to my RO/DI unit.

Any thoughts?
