Question about 3 knob diverter

I have an older shower with a 3 knob diverter. There is a trickle of water that comes out from the cold water tube into the tub when the shower is on. The odd thing is that this water comes out from the cold side tube een when only the hot water is on.

I am demoing this entire setup and installing a stall shower so I am not looking to fix this issue, but I am curious about it. Why would both hot and cold water come thru the tube?

The diverter valve is basically the same as the other valves. Rebuild it it with a new washer, and O rings if it has them.

I'm not looking to fix it, just to understand why water would leak out from the cold stem tube even if only the hot water is turned on.
