the inspector can say anything he wants, but he needs to be able to back up anything he says with an applicable code reference. I'm not telling DM to be an a$$ to the inspector, but asking for clarification is entirely within his rights

Pvc gold???

Local code in this area states that only copper is to be used with in 18" of a gas water heater because the heat that is generated at the top of the water heater has the potential to make CPVC like a flexible little garden hose. Same for the relief valve. I also had an inspector measure them one day because they were so close to the proper cut off height from the floor. I have a Piece of CPVC in my office that was part of a court case that is as round as a hula hoop.

Now Electric is a different story. CPVC can be used to connect but relief valve must still be copper.

Story is that a child was in the basement playing when the relief valve went off and the CPVC lost it rigidity causing it to spray the girl. Dont know if it is the truth but, good enough for me

that's how we tell the real construction guys from the weekend DIY'ers.

Lav's and WC's. That's what a print will generally list them as.

Hey DM, I might have a can of gold spray paint laying around? It would be "gold" pvc after that.

Totally agree with you. Here's a little line I heard years ago when I was inspecting Construction Projects for Uncle Sam.

" Arguing with an inspector is like playing with a pig in the mud, the more you play the more he likes it".

Guess who always wins?
